Troubleshooting Suggestions
62 LTO-4 (Model B) Half-Height Tape Drive User’s Guide
Caution: The write/read test will overwrite any data on the tape.
Always use a new/blank or “scratch” cartridge for
diagnostic write/read tests.
6 Retry the backup operation. If the backup retry:
• Succeeds, the problem is resolved.
• Fails, contact Technical Support to resolve the possible problem
with the tape drive.
Write-Protected TapeAlert Messages
Write-protected TapeAlert messages can appear in response to:
• Actual write-protected tape cartridges
• Defective tape cartridges
IF the diagnostic test . . . THEN . . .
completes normally, retry the backup operation
using the same new/blank or
“scratch” tape that you used
for the diagnostic write/read
test.
If the backup retry:
• Succeeds, discard the
original data tape. The
problem is resolved.
• Fails, repeat steps 3 and 4 of
this procedure to clean the
tape drive a second time and
proceed to step 6.
