36 Maintenance
When possible, keep all ESD-sensitive parts in a grounded metal case.
Be very careful when you work with ESD-sensitive parts in cold weather. Low humidity increases
the buildup static electricity.
Removing and Replacing the SFP
Follow the procedures below to remove and replace the SFP (small form factor pluggable transceiver).
Removing the SFP
1 Unplug the Fibre Channel cable.
2 Press down on the SFP release button and pull it out of the channel slot.
3 Place the SFP in a static-protective bag.
Replacing the SFP
1 Insert the SFP into the channel slot.
2 Remove the dust caps from the SFP.
3 Plug the Fibre Channel cables back in, ensuring the correct polarity.
Removing and Replacing the SNC 6101
If a repair action is required for the SNC 6101, you should follow these replacement steps.
1 Record and save the current configuration information using the supportDump command followed by
fcShowNames to collect the assigned WWNs. For more information, refer to the SNC Firmware 4
User’s Guide.
2 If you are removing a replacement unit that had its WWN (World Wide Name) changed, proceed to
Changing the WWN
on page 37, otherwise, proceed to Step 3.
3 Power down the Scalar 100 and disconnect its AC power cord.
4 For each cable attached to the SNC 6101:
Remove the cable.
Mark the cable to identify its location (for example, SNC number 3, SCSI channel 1).
5 Loosen the two thumbscrews on the back of the SNC 6101.
6 Remove the module from the Scalar 100.
CAUTION
Shut down the host systems to ensure that all I/O through the SNC
6101 has stopped.
